Every year I create a new list of songs to add to your Pride Month playlist, and this year will not be an exception. There’s so much wonderful queer music out there, and I think Pride Month is a beautiful opportunity to explore LGBTQ+ artistry and enjoy some of the wonderful things to listen to. So, without further ado, here are this year’s selections!
Jasmin Savoy – Orange Wine
Jasmin Savoy Brown (she/her) is a queer singer and actor from California, best known for her performances in TV shows such as Yellowjackets and The Leftovers. She writes and performs music under the name of Jasmin Savoy.
Thou – I Feel Nothing When You Cry
Thou is a USAmerican sludge metal band from Louisiana and formed in 2005. KC Stafford, who has been a guitarist and vocalist for the band since 2018, is nonbinary.
Dua Saleh – daylight falls
Dua Saleh (they/them and xe/xim/xyr) is a Sudanese-born singer and actor based in Minnesota. Xe is best known for their work in the Netflix original series Sex Education. They are nonbinary.
Lavender Country – Cryin’ These Cocksucking Tears
Lavender Country was a gay country band from Seattle with explicitly gay lyrics in their songs. Their self-titled 1973 album is widely recognised as the first gay country album.
Jiae – Love is Love
Jiae (she/her) is a South Korean singer who came to prominence as a member of the K-pop group WA$$UP. Jiae publicly came out as bisexual in 2020 when she announced that she has a girlfriend.
Clarissa Bitar – Sido’s Dance
Clarissa Bitar (they/them) is a classical oud musician and composer from LA who works in traditional and modern styles and has appeared in numerous collaborations. They are queer and Palestinian.
Tunde Olaniran – Whipped Cream Daydream
Tunde Olaniran (they/them) is an art pop artist from Flint, Michigan and of Nigerian descent, and a fixture of the Detroit music scene. They are gender-nonconforming.
Ayip – Hoe Phase
Ayip (she/her) is a Filipino R&B artist based in Antipolo, Philippines who sings in both English and Tagalog. She is part of the LGBT community and makes music for women who love women.
Bobby Sanchez – T4T
Bobby Sanchez (she/they and ella/elle) is a Wari rapper, singer, model, and poet whose traditional land is in Peru. She is transgender and two-spirit.
K’s Choice – Time is a Parasite
K’s Choice is an alternative rock band from Belgium, best known for their 90s hit “Not an Addict.” Although he hasn’t been out for the duration of their career, their frontman Sam Bettens is openly trans.
